    The Lisbon Trade Association / Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with the Porto Trade Association / Porto Chamber of Commerce and Industry set up the Centre for Commercial Arbitration within the legal framework of voluntary arbitration - Law No. 31/86 of 29th August; this Centre is qualified to resolve conflicts of a commercial nature. Authorisation for the creation of the Centre was granted by the Ministry of Justice by means of orders nos. 9/87 and 26/87.

NEW YORK CONVENTION, 1958.

Date of accession: 18 October 1994.

Entry into force for : 16 January 1995.

Limited to Awards:

 

"Within the scope of the principle of reciprocity, Portugal will restrict the application of the Convention to arbitral awards pronounced in the territory of a State bound by the said Convention."

On 12 November 1999, Portugal presented a declaration of territorial application of the Convention in respect of Macau. The notification has taken effect for Macau on 10 February 2000, in accordance with article X(2).
