New York Convention 1958-1999.
Though a little dated, we
hoped this graphic would make
the point about the "rise and
rise" of the New York
Convention.

NEW YORK CONVENTION, 1958.

Date of signature: 10 June 1958. Date of ratification: 30 June 1961.

Entry into force for : 28 September 1961.

The Convention was acceded to by the former German Democratic Republic on 20 February 1975 with reservations (not reproduced here).

Declarations, etc.:
Upon ratification the Government of the Federal Republic made a reservation, this was withdrawn (notification received by UN Secretary General on 31 August) in 1998.
Objection:
of 29 December 1989 "The Federal Republic of Germany is of the opinion that the second paragraph of the declaration of the Argentine Republic represents a reservation and as such is not only contradictory to article I (3) of the Convention but is also vague and hence inadmissible; it therefore raises an objection to that reservation. "In all other respects this objection is not intended to prevent the entry into force of the Convention between the Argentine Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany."

(There was a declaration -from the FRG- and communications from numerous other countries in the 1970s regarding application of the NYC to Berlin at the time of German partition. These are not reproduved here.)
